The people in the PMO in this organization were a delight to work with! Awesome people with a strong desire to make making work more effective. None of the project managers reported into the PMO. The “P” stood for Portfolio and this team managed program management and governance. That affected how PM’s would manage projects and this PMO took the stance that they support the PMs by helping build process that works and fits into their governance strategy.
Given this was a public sector organization, it was subject to the Freedom of Information Act and as long as the artefacts and processes allowed them to efficiently deal with that constraint, they were up for it. This is their Kanban board:
