In an attempt to reduce administration, we implemented simpler health dashboards that tracked progress by feature throughput. We had a hard time introducing new metrics. We failed at explaining that these metrics should replace existing ones and had a hard time getting adoption. So we went to the PMO and had them added to the monthly status reports. We then encouraged the Directors to start asking for these reports in order to create urgency to do it.
Of course we ran into the usual “well, I need to do 40 features in order to make the release so my estimate is 40 features this month“. This style of reporting was merged into the new portfolio wall eventually.
